Sound Art

OFFBEAT – a program about collectors, archives, rarities and musical experiments, structured in three series of auditions and dialogues presenting Romanian and foreign collectors (whether they are fanatical explorers, diggers, selectors, sound artists, musicians, DJs, record label founders, radio people or historians with musical affinities), complemented by thematic lectures. OFFBEAT space – a different kind of library, a space dedicated to reading, listening and studying sound and contemporary music, with specialized book resources (reference studies, essays, publications) and “obscure” music in analog and digital format (vinyl’s, cassettes, CD’s), film screenings, public reading sessions and auditions with young collectors.

OFFBEAT Kids – a module of three workshops to familiarize young children with musical creation and production practices, tracing a microhistory of electronic music from magnetic tape to synth and AI.

All events will take place between August 2025 and October 2026 in Bucharest – Goethe Institut, MNAC, /SAC @Malmaison, Atelierele Malmaison and, in a limited format, in Timișoara – Simultan and Minitremu, and Cluj – Casa Tranzit.
