ACOUSMATIV
01.09.2025

Acousmativ is a project dedicated to exploring contemporary spectral, acousmatic, and multi-channel electroacoustic music. In November 2025, it will inaugurate Romania’s first acousmonium, Acousmonium 41, alongside the first edition of ACOUSMATIV Festival at the National Museum of Contemporary Art, Bucharest (14–22.11.2025). The programme will feature performances, conferences, and discussions with leading figures in the field, including Daniel Terrugi, Patrick K.-H., Patrick Topitschnig, Irinel Anghel, Erica Nemescu, Armando Balice, Alla Zagaikevich, Horea Avram, Tetiana Khoroshun, and Volkmar Klien. Up-to-date info about the events: Facebook & Instagram.

Tracing the history of acousmatic systems worldwide, Acousmonium 41 emerges from the long-standing explorations of sound artist and media researcher Sillyconductor (Cătălin Matei) into acoustics, audiophilia, and multi-channel sound creation.
Presented in its full form in Bucharest, the system consists of a 24-channel audio installation with 34 speakers, controlled by 24 motorized faders and a touchscreen interface. Adapted, nomadic versions will also travel: Acousmignon 41-T at the Simultan Festival in Timisoara and Acousmignon 41-I at ArtEast Gallery in Iasi.
Looking ahead, the system will expand to 32 individual channels and gain a permanent home: a residency center for sound artists and researchers dedicated to fostering both local and international multi-channel practices.

In addition, we opened an international call for acousmatic, spatial, and electroacoustic compositions. Ten works will be selected by public vote and played during the exhibition of the installation in Timișoara (October 1-6), Iași (October 25-31), and Bucharest (November 14-27).
